Under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Rs. 7 billion Agricultural Transformation Plan (ATP), 35 farmers from the Potohar region have been selected through balloting for the construction of mini-dams aimed at improving irrigation and boosting agricultural productivity.
The allotment event was presided over by MPA Nawabzada Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan. Of the selected farmers, eight are from Attock, nine each from Fateh Jang and Pindigheb, and ten from Jand.
The Punjab government will provide a 70 percent subsidy for building 400 mini-dams across Rawalpindi Division over the next three years, 100 in the first year and 150 annually in the following two years. The initiative is designed to address the region’s long-standing irrigation challenges and promote sustainable water management.
Speaking at the ceremony, Khan highlighted that agricultural development and farmers’ welfare are top priorities for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Agriculture Department, including Additional Director General Soil Conservation Dr. Parvez Sikandar, Director Project Monitoring Unit Muhammad Irfan Man, and Director Soil Conservation Rawalpindi Atiqur Rehman, along with numerous local farmers.
