Rawalpindi to Get Multiple New Underpasses and a Flyover
Rawalpindi is set to receive several new road infrastructure projects as authorities move ahead with plans to expand the city’s signal-free corridor network and ease growing traffic congestion.
According to officials, three new underpasses will be constructed on Peshawar Road at Qasim Market Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk.
After completion of these projects, authorities say a fully signal-free corridor will be available from Maraka-e-Haq Square to Motorway Chowk, improving traffic flow towards Islamabad Airport, Peshawar, Lahore, and Hazara Motorway.
Additional projects under consideration include an underpass at AFIC Chowk, a flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk, and another underpass at Ninth Avenue connecting Double Road with Islamabad.
Officials said the projects are part of broader efforts to modernize Rawalpindi’s road infrastructure and manage increasing traffic pressure in the twin cities. Authorities estimate that more than 200,000 vehicles will use the signal-free corridor daily after the new infrastructure becomes operational.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently inaugurated the Maraka-e-Haq Square project, which includes flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian bridges aimed at improving urban traffic management in Rawalpindi.
