LG minister directs officials to accelerate work on major road projects
KARACHI: Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Monday instructed officials to accelerate work on major road infrastructure projects in Karachi and warned that unnecessary delays in development schemes would not be tolerated.
During a visit to Shahrah-i-Bhutto, the Korangi Causeway Bridge and the Korangi No. 5 Flyover, Mr Shah was briefed by Additional Chief Secretary (LG) Dr Wasim Shamshad and other senior officers on construction progress and completion timelines.
He said that efforts were underway to complete projects ahead of schedule and, on the directives of the chief minister, incomplete development schemes were being prioritised. “No development project will be left incomplete,” he added.
At Shahrah-i-Bhutto, the minister inspected development and beautification works on surrounding roads. He also reviewed the loop connecting the artery with DHA and the link road leading to Ayesha Mosque, and directed authorities to complete development works from DHA to Ayesha Mosque at the earliest.
He said that the link road would provide an important travel facility to citizens and stressed that its timely completion must be ensured.
Mr Shah also reviewed construction work on the Korangi No. 5 Flyover. Officials informed him that the project had entered its final stages and would soon be opened for public, providing significant relief to commuters in Korangi.
At the Korangi Causeway Bridge, he inspected progress on Road 12000, Road 13000, Road 20000 and adjoining service roads.
The minister said that in line with the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the provincial government was focusing on modern road infrastructure and improved transportation facilities for citizens.
He said that the completion of roads and flyovers would provide substantial relief to commuters, while major projects were underway to upgrade the city’s infrastructure. “No compromise will be made on the quality of development works,” he stressed.
Mr Shah said that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government was committed to providing maximum civic facilities to the people and that all available resources were being utilised to ensure the timely completion of ongoing development projects across the city.
