Govt Proposes Rs5.5bn For Sports Infrastructure Projects In Major Cities
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Apr, 2026) The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination plans to undertake multiple projects to develop sports infrastructure in major cities at a proposed cost of Rs5.5 billion.
According to official documents available with Wealth Pakistan, a project with a total cost of Rs3.5 billion has been proposed for the construction of sports facilities at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Coaching Centre in Skardu.
The project includes the development of a football ground, a hockey turf, a synthetic athletic track, tennis and volleyball courts, along with an administrative block and allied infrastructure.
The ministry has also planned construction works at Lalik Jan Hockey Stadium, Gilgit, including the installation of floodlights, construction of a retaining wall, and fencing to enable night-time sporting activities. The project will cost Rs268.776 million.
In Lahore, the plan includes the construction of a boxing gymnasium and the upgradation of cycling facilities at the PSB Coaching Centre at a proposed cost of Rs1.
4 billion, while similar construction and improvement works have been proposed for the PSB Coaching Centre in Peshawar to enhance athlete training capacity.
This component of the project will cost Rs365.241 million.
The proposed PSDP demand for 2026-27 includes Rs800m for Skardu, Rs200m for Gilgit, and Rs150m each for Lahore and Peshawar projects.
The document reflects that these projects are part of a broader strategy to expand and modernise sports infrastructure nationwide through phased construction and development initiatives.
The proposed investment will not only improve existing facilities but also create new opportunities for young athletes, particularly in remote areas, by providing access to standardised training infrastructure.
The initiatives proposed under PSDP 2026-27 are expected to play a key role in promoting sports culture, nurturing talent, and strengthening Pakistan’s performance in national and international competitions.
