Rawalpindi villages to get model makeover
Several villages in Rawalpindi division have been included in Punjab’s Model Village Project. More than Rs2.42 billion will be spent on civic upgrades, including water supply, drainage, paved streets, and streetlights.
RAWALPINDI: Several villages in Rawalpindi division have been selected for Punjab’s Model Village Project, an initiative aimed at improving the standard of basic services in rural areas.
According to details, the project has been launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure the provision of quality infrastructure in rural parts of the province. Under the scheme, selected villages in Kallar Syedan, Gujar Khan, Kahuta and other areas of Rawalpindi division will receive a range of civic facilities.
The planned works include the supply of clean drinking water, installation of streetlights, construction of paved streets, development of drainage systems, improvement of children’s parks and establishment of wastewater treatment facilities.
A total of more than Rs2.42 billion will be spent on the schemes through the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company. The report said the overall estimated cost of the development work stands at Rs2.427 billion.
Villages included in the project
The villages named for inclusion from Rawalpindi division are Changa Bangial in Gujar Khan, Salamabad in Kallar Syedan, and Jawa village in Union Council Jawa, Kahuta.
Also included are Lehtrar Bala and Santh Anwali Kohati in Kotli Sattian, along with Sultani Dhoke, Chak Baqar Shah, Khokhar Zar, Dhoke Daraz Dhakali, Sadwal Langa Bhain, Bilalabad, Waryal, Niragi, Jand Awan and Basharat village.
The initiative is intended to upgrade public infrastructure in these rural localities by providing services that are considered essential for residents’ daily needs and community welfare.
Tendering process underway
Sources said tenders have already been invited for the projects. The report added that work would be completed in the shortest possible time after the award of contracts.
The development package forms part of a broader provincial effort to improve living conditions in villages by extending municipal-style services to rural settlements. In the Rawalpindi division, the selected locations span multiple tehsils, reflecting a geographically wider rollout of the programme.
With the tendering stage already underway, the selected villages are set to receive infrastructure upgrades covering water supply, sanitation, roads, lighting, recreation, and wastewater management under the provincial model village plan.
