Work begins to restore flood-hit Swat roads

K-P Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary has announced urgent measures for the restoration of Bahrain Bazaar Road, which was severely affected by recent flash floods. The government machinery has been mobilized to address the situation promptly.

During a surprise visit to Swat district, the chief secretary personally inspected the flood-hit roads and markets.

Speaking to the media, he expressed his concern for the difficulties faced by the affected people and emphasized the need to assess the damage caused by the floods and take immediate steps to address the issues.

Chaudhary highlighted that line departments were actively engaged in restoring road infrastructure in the affected areas using heavy machinery.

While acknowledging the challenges posed by the high water flow in the Swat River during the winter season, he assured the acceleration of restoration work.

Accompanied by Caretaker Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Muhammad Ali Shah Khan, secretaries of relevant departments, the deputy commissioner of Swat, and other officials, the chief secretary also listened to the grievances of local elders. He assured them that the government would allocate funds for the restoration of roads to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and revitalize the Bahrain Bazaar.

The chief secretary underscored that the government’s top priority was the early restoration of damaged roads to facilitate tourists and locals.

He mentioned that plans were underway for the construction of an alternative bypass from Bahrain Bazaar to address long-term infrastructure needs.

Meanwhile, the Relief, Rehabilitation, and Settlement Department has formed four technical teams to assess the damages caused by a recent rainstorm that tragically claimed 31 lives.

These teams will evaluate the reports submitted by the district administrations in the southern districts of the province, where 485 houses were partially damaged and seven houses were destroyed.

The teams, consisting of three members each, have been tasked with conducting comprehensive assessments to understand the extent of the damages caused by the storm. Their reports will provide valuable insights for the relief department to plan and implement effective rehabilitation measures.

The department also urges the public to take precautionary measures in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season.
