Work begins on Rs7bn road project in Bajaur

Construction work on the 71 kilometres long Timergra-Khar-Mamad Gat Road project started here the other day, official sources said.

They said the ground breaking of the Rs7 billion project, said to be one of the mega projects in the district, was performed by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to Bajaur tribal district on Sept 28.

The officials said work on the scheme, being executed by the Frontier Work Organization, was launched a couple of days ago.

They said the road would connect Bajaur with the neighbouring Lower Dir and Mohmand districts, providing the residents with modern communication facilities.

They said the road project would be complete within the stipulated time.

Talking to Dawn, deputy commissioner Mohammad Fayyaz Khan termed the launch of work on the road project good news for the people of Bajaur. He said the project would not only provide job opportunities to hundreds of local residents, but would also herald a new era of progress and prosperity in the region.

As per the plan, the deputy commissioner said the first section of the road would be from Mamad Gat to Lowisam and the second from Khar to Timergra. He added a base had been established in Lowisam area for the workers of the construction company, and the second base would be set up in Toor Gandi area soon.

Meanwhile, provincial minister for zakat and ushr Anwarzeb Khan visited the site of the project in Lowisam area and inspected the construction work.

The minister assured all sorts of support and assistance to the construction company in timely execution of the important project.

Meanwhile, people of Bajaur have welcomed the launch of work on the road project, and expressed the hope that it would ensure modern communication facilities to them on completion.
