Tashkent Proposes Joint Venture for China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project

Authorities in Tashkent have presented a proposal to establish a joint venture aimed at overseeing the construction and management of the ambitious China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, according to reports from the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting of government delegations from Uzbekistan, China, and Kyrgyzstan held in Kashgar. Both Beijing and Bishkek have expressed their support for this initiative, signifying a step forward in the long-awaited railway project.

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway has been envisioned as a crucial infrastructure development project that promises to enhance connectivity and boost economic cooperation between the three countries. However, progress on the project has faced hurdles in the past, including challenges related to financing terms.

Earlier reports from LogiStan highlighted difficulties in reaching consensus on financing terms between Beijing and Bishkek, leading to delays in the commencement of construction for the railway line. These delays prevented Kyrgyzstan from initiating construction activities in the autumn of 2023.

The proposal for the establishment of a joint venture marks a renewed effort to overcome obstacles and advance the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
