Rawalpindi to Get Another Underpass Soon
The Punjab government is considering building an underpass on The Mall in front of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and Military Hospital to ease traffic congestion at Station Mor.
A senior district administration official stated that authorities had submitted a proposal to the provincial government to build the underpass at the busy intersection. The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) has also submitted a report recommending the project to make The Mall and Peshawar Road a signal-free corridor from Koral Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
The official said construction could begin by the end of December, subject to government approval, after workers complete the underpasses at Race Course Park and Charing Cross. Authorities are preparing the PC-I and plan to submit it to the government for final approval by the end of October.
The proposed AFIC underpass would improve traffic flow between Ammar Chowk and Motorway Chowk. The official said authorities had not built it alongside the GPO underpass because diverting all traffic onto Haider Road via Station Mor would have made traffic management difficult.
