Naqvi directs completion of Sangjani Interchange by July 31

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday visited the site of the Margalla Road-Motorway extension project and instructed officials to complete the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road by July 31.

During the visit, Naqvi reviewed construction work underway on the project and received a detailed briefing on its different components from officials.

According to officials, the project spans 2.7 kilometres and will include a three-lane carriageway on both sides. They said the scheme will also have a two-lane service road.

Officials further briefed the interior minister that the project plan includes an interchange on GT Road, two underpasses and a bridge aimed at maintaining smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow.

Naqvi inspected the ongoing development activities at the site as part of his review of progress on the road link.

Project features outlined during the briefing

The briefing given to the minister stated that the Margalla Road-Motorway extension project has been designed to improve traffic movement through multiple supporting structures in addition to the main carriageway.

These features, according to officials, include the GT Road interchange, two underpasses and a bridge. They said the road itself will consist of three lanes on each side, while a separate two-lane service road is also part of the plan.

The minister’s visit focused on the pace of construction and the timeline for completion of the Sangjani Interchange, which he directed should be finished by July 31.

The site inspection and briefing took place on Tuesday, with officials presenting details of the project’s scope and infrastructure elements to the interior minister during his visit.

Officials said the overall design is intended to support uninterrupted traffic flow through the area once the interchange, underpasses and bridge are completed.

Naqvi’s directions came during his on-site review of the Margalla Road-Motorway extension project, where he examined the progress of construction and was briefed on the status of work.
