LDA Approves Underpass Project For Firdous Market
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has recently approved the construction of an underpass in the Firdous Market locality of Gulberg in Lahore. This project will cost around PKR 1.80 billion, and it will be a dual-lane carriageway. Moreover, it will be a full-depth underpass that will make commuting in this locality a lot easier for people. The underpass will help solve the issue of traffic congestion for traffic coming from the Center Point to Firdous Market and traffic heading towards the MM Alam Road. Such a project will be conducive to increased economic activity in Lahore as it will make commuting in one of the busiest neighborhoods of the city easier. Gulberg has become a powerful economic hub of Lahore city, with major offices and shopping malls opening in the locality.
This underpass will require seven Kanals of land, and it will be 540 feet long. LDA is also taking into account the rainy conditions, especially in the Monsoon season. To pursue this end, there will be a special rainwater drainage system. There is another project which got approved. This is an entertainment park to be built in Johar Town, Lahore. This park will span a total of 140 Kanals and will be located near the Aleem Dar Cricket Academy. Previously, LDA was considering building a flyover in the Firdous Market crossway. For the underpass project, the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) was employed to aid in the project’s design and consultancy.
The development of this project will not adversely affect surrounding structures. The construction of this underpass is a piece of excellent news for the residents of Lahore. Lahore is the backbone of the Punjab province, and such developmental projects are needed as the population of the city grows over time. The meeting that approved both these projects included representatives from the provincial Finance and Planning and Development (P&D) departments. Moreover, project directors and the chief engineer of LDA were also present to look over the feasibility of such a crucial project. Consultants from the private sector also took part in the meeting that took place earlier on Monday.
