Govt may complete 5 projects by end of 2026
LAHORE: The Punjab government is expected to complete all five big ongoing development projects by the end of this year. The Neela Gumbad revival project is expected to be completed by December this year, while the Nasir Bagh project is scheduled for completion by October. Additionally, the Data Darbar project is set to be finished by June 30, and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) plans to complete four crucial road structures by May this year.
Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq disclosed this while providing an update on ongoing projects and the actions taken against those violating regulations during a meeting that was chaired by Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin on Tuesday. The meeting also reviewed the progress on amendments to existing laws and proposed reforms.
On this occasion, the Minister said that illegal constructions and the squatting mafia have no place in the city. He also stressed that private housing societies must ensure compliance with government-issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding water treatment plants.
Punjab Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal instructed other development authorities to adopt similar procedural guidelines. The SOPs must be observed during ongoing development projects in the provincial capital, he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister visited the under-construction disposal station, and he was accompanied by WASA Lahore MD Ghufran Ahmed. Officers from NESPAK, WASA, and other institutions were also present during the visit.
During a briefing, it was told that the disposal station is set to be 40 feet deep and will have a pumping capacity of 125 cusecs. On this occasion, the Minister said that the Harbanspura to Zarar Shaheed Road Trunk Sewer System aims to address significant drainage issues, adding that there will be no compromise on the quality and speed of the ongoing development works. He also instructed that special monitoring of safety SOPs should be ensured at all project sites.
Additionally, Yasin mentioned that he plans to visit other districts to assess the ongoing development works under the Punjab Development Plan.
