Federal government allocates funds for various schemes in karachi

KARACHI: The federal government has allocated funds for various schemes in water, road, transport, and sewerage in Karachi in the budget 2020-21. In the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the government has allocated Rs3 billion for the Greenline Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and Rs650 million for the re-construction of Manghopir Road from Jam Chakro to Banaras.

Rs350 million has been set aside for the re-construction of Nishtar and Manghopir Roads and Rs384 million for the rehabilitation of the existing fire fighting system of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

A total of Rs500 million has been allocated for construction of an interchange over the Malir Link Road to the M-9 and Rs44 million for construction of a road over Malir Bund from Dadabhoy Town/Expressway up to the limits of PNS Mehran, District East.

Rs217 million has been allocated for improvement/rehabilitation of different roads/streets and water and sewerage systems in District East and Rs62 million for improvement/rehabilitation of different roads/streets and water and sewerage systems in District Korangi.

Likewise, Rs124 million has been set aside for improvement/rehabilitation of different roads/streets and water and sewerage systems in various union councils of District Central and Rs1.319 billion for improvement/rehabilitation of different roads/streets and water and sewerage system in various union councils of District East.

For similar projects, namely, improvement of different roads and water and sewerage system in various union councils of District Central the federal government has earmarked Rs606 million; for various union councils of District East Rs1.451 billion; Rs1.451 billion for District Korangi/Malir; and Rs986 million for District South and West, KMC.

The government has allocated Rs155 million for improvement/rehabilitation of roads and water and sewerage system in various union councils of District West and Rs95 million for District South.

For the next financial year, the government has allocated Rs7.950 billion for the operationalization of the Greenline BRTS and the installation of integrated intelligent transport system equipment.

For the establishment of a combined effluent treatment plant (CETP) for the industrial areas of Karachi, the government has set aside Rs1 billion, and Rs2.357 billion has been earmarked for the Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV).
