ECC to take up Karachi development projects tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to be held on Wednesday will take up various issues related to development projects in Karachi.

According to documents, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has summoned the meeting of the ECC in which nine agenda items pertaining to different ministries, including five agenda items pertaining to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, will be discussed.

The five agenda items of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs include the construction of remaining sewerage system in the northwest industrial zone and southwest industrial zone at Port Qasim, construction of remaining water supply network in the northwest industrial zone and southwest industrial zone at Port Qasim, construction of remaining road works and stormwater drains in the northwest industrial zone and southwest industrial zone at Port Qasim and construction of pump houses, underground water tanks, overhead water tanks and auxiliary work in eastern industrial zone at Port Qasim.

Appointment of engineering consultancy services firm for planning, designing, preparation of tender documents and construction supervision for the combined effluent treatment plant in the northwest industrial zone and enhancement of existing sewerage treatment plant already established at Port Qasim is also on the agenda.

ECC would also take up matters pertaining to the provision of satellite services in Pakistan and a report of the committee constituted by the ECC on litigation between the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and LMKR.

The meeting would also consider the summary of the Ministry of Finance pertaining to the approval of a 22.5 Million Saudi riyal foreign equity investment by Eastern Products Private Limited, Pakistan.

The issue of supply of gas to localities within a five-kilometer (km) radius of petroleum gas producing fields of the Petroleum Division is also on the agenda of the meeting.
