Construction of Major Parking Plaza in Lahore to Start Next Month
The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) will launch construction of the long-awaited Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza next month, officials confirmed on Saturday. Preparatory work for the project is already underway.
Originally envisioned by the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR) and later handed over to Tepa for execution, the project will feature a four-story underground parking facility spread across 16 kanals of land.
According to Tepa Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain, the first level of the plaza will house shops that will be allotted to traders whose businesses are being acquired for the project. The remaining three floors will provide space for 374 cars and 790 motorcycles. “The aim is to ease congestion in this busy commercial hub by eliminating parking problems,” Hussain explained while briefing LDA Director General Tahir Farooq.
Officials further revealed that similar parking plazas are planned for Nasser Bagh and near the historic Tollinton Market.
Directing the agency to complete the bidding process without delay, the LDA DG emphasized that quality must not be compromised and that the project should be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
