Asad Umar directs officials to expedite work on KCR project

ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar has asked the authorities concerned to take all possible measures for speedy completion of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) Phase-III.

The minister issued these directives while chairing a progress review meeting of the KCR project on Thursday.

Asad Umar directed Pakistan Railways to formulate a system of public-private partnerships for the third phase. It was decided that the process would be completed and work on the third phase would be ensured within the current financial year.

The Public-Private Partnership Authority would provide the necessary cooperation and assistance to the Ministry of Railways in this regard.

It was further informed in the meeting that the KCR construction would now be completed in three years, by mid-2023.

The meeting was told that the Ministry of Railways is constantly in touch with the Sindh government, and that work on underpasses at various places is expected to start soon.

Asad Umar said that KCR was an important project, as it would not only provide modern transport facilities to the people of Karachi but would also be a very attractive project for investment.
