PDWP approves 14 uplift projects in KP

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) during its seventh meeting approved 14 various development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The seventh meeting of the PDWP for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the financial year 2026-27 was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Department Islam Zeb.

The meeting approved a total of 14 projects in the sectors of roads; sports, forestry, Board of Revenue (BoR) and multi-sectoral development were approved during the meeting.

On the special directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PDWP approved several major road projects aimed at improving connectivity and providing better and safer travelling facilities across the province. Under the approved projects, a 45-kilometre road from Shughar to Shah Salim in Upper Chitral will be constructed to connect remote areas. In Buner district, the 20-kilometre road from Battai to Khalil Top will be widened, improved and blacktopped to provide safer and easier transportation to local residents. In Tehsil Bara of Khyber district, an 11-kilometre road from Shangar Markaz to Dars Masjid via Sandipal and an 8-kilometre road from Ahmadi to Donga will also be constructed.

Similarly, a project for the feasibility study, design and construction of the road from Makhniyal-Islamabad boundary to Changla Gali via Dukhan Palsar in Abbottabad district was approved to improve safe and convenient access to tourist destinations.

The PDWP also approved a special development package worth more than Rs9 billion for Torghar district on the special directives of the Chief Minister.

The comprehensive package is aimed at improving connectivity in remote areas, enhancing basic services, creating employment opportunities and improving access to healthcare and other essential facilities.

The approved projects include the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project; feasibility study for the Umarzai Bypass Road in Charsadda; construction of the 45-kilometre Shughar-Shah Salim Road in Upper Chitral; widening, improvement and blacktopping of the 20-kilometre Battai-Khalil Top Road in Buner; construction of the 11-kilometre Shangar Markaz-Dars Masjid Road via Sandipal and the 8-kilometre Ahmadi-Donga Road in Bara, Khyber; feasibility study, design and construction of the Makhniyal-Islamabad Boundary-Changla Gali Road via Dukhan Palsar in Abbottabad; establishment of a Sports Stadium in Upper Chitral; organisation of sports competitions in the merged districts; construction, up-gradation and rehabilitation of sports grounds and existing sports facilities; Phase-II of the Special Development Package for Torghar; establishment of an Urban Policy Unit; the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Resource for Inclusive Development Multi-Phase Programmatic Approach; and centralisation of the Land Record Management Information System.

Addressing the meeting, Islam Zeb directed the concerned departments to ensure timely implementation, transparency and quality in the execution of the approved projects.
