Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway construction to begin in May, minister says
Abdul Aleem Khan says M-6 and Karachi motorway to be built under PPP model; M-12 upgraded to six lanes
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced that construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) will begin in May, directing the National Highway Authority to ensure the project proceeds without further delay.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the NHA, the minister said the Sukkur-Hyderabad section remains a priority and instructed officials to take immediate steps to move the project forward.
He stated that both the Sukkur-Hyderabad and Karachi motorways would be executed under a Public-Private Partnership model. He added that work on different sections would be carried out simultaneously to ensure timely completion.
The minister also announced that the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway (M-12) would now be constructed as a six-lane highway instead of four lanes to accommodate projected traffic volumes.
During the meeting, discussions were held on expanding connectivity and enhancing regional integration. Plans were reviewed to link the motorway network with Kartarpur and other religious tourism destinations to increase economic activity.
The minister said the ministry would organise roadshows in Canada, the United States, and Europe to promote Sikh religious tourism.
The session concluded with a briefing by the NHA chairman and senior officials on the feasibility of the Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway and proposed reforms to modernise Right of Way advertising policies.
