Work on Three Rawalpindi Underpasses to Start This Month

The under-construction Kachehri Chowk flyover and three underpasses are scheduled for completion by April 30, while work on three underpasses along Peshawar Road will start in mid-February and finish by May 30.

Authorities will maintain one-way traffic flow during construction on Peshawar Road. The Communication and Works (C&W) Department has updated the Punjab government on the project’s progress and upcoming milestones.

Once completed, a signal-free corridor from Kachehri Chowk to Motorway Chowk will be operational by June 2026, ensuring smoother traffic flow.

Construction on the Jinnah Park Underpass and Flyover, Kachehri Chowk Underpass and Flyover, and Iftikhar Janjua Road widening and underpass project is underway at a total cost of Rs. 13.33 billion.

Work continues round the clock in three shifts, with completion and opening to traffic expected by April 30. Meanwhile, three underpasses on Peshawar Road—at Qasim Market–Race Course Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Chairing Cross Chowk—will be built at a cost of Rs. 8.83 billion.

Utility relocation, including electricity, gas, sewerage lines, and removal of trees, has been underway for the past week, with formal construction set to begin by mid-February. Superintending Engineer C&W Rao Tahir confirmed that Kachehri Chowk work will finish by April 30, after which the junction will reopen fully to traffic.

He added that construction on Peshawar Road will begin from Chairing Cross Chowk, with an underpass for traffic from Saddar, while vehicles heading toward Peshawar will move freely through road widening and remodeling, enabling signal-free movement
