Rawalpindi is Getting Multiple New Flyovers and Underpasses
The Punjab Communication and Works Department has officially started groundwork for the construction of major infrastructure projects, including flyovers and underpasses at Kutchery Chowk and Jinnah Park, along with retaining walls at Fatima Jinnah Women University and Jinnah Park.
According to officials, the combined cost of the two flyovers and one underpass stand at Rs. 6.6 billion. The Jinnah Park underpass and flyover project will cost Rs. 5.2 billion, while the Iftikhar Janjua underpass is estimated at Rs. 2.7 billion.
Although construction will begin in the first week of November, pending clearance from the garrison authorities, the provincial highway department has already started work on building retaining walls to facilitate the construction of service roads and the relocation of utility services.
Additionally, construction on three more underpasses — at Racecourse Park, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road — is expected to start within the fiscal year 2025–26, making the route from Ammar Chowk to the motorway signal-free.
