Riverside construction banned in Kaghan
MANSEHRA: The district administration on Monday imposed a ban on construction activities in and around the Kunhar River in Kaghan Valley.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through commissioner Hazara wants an immediate ban on construction of buildings in and around Kunhar River and strict action would be initiated against contraveners,” an order issued by the deputy commissioner read.
It added that the Peshawar High Court’s Abbottabad Circuit Bench, in a recent verdict, directed the provincial government not to permit constructions of buildings within and alongside the Kunhar River.
“We have received the same order by the Commissioner Hazara and noticed it for the public and issued it to the relevant public departments. I, in exercise of power conferred upon me under Section 144 of CrPC, impose a ban on construction of buildings with a close range of 200 feet in the Kunhar River,” the order read.
Admin warns ban violators of action
It further said the ban on such construction work was placed under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa River Protection Ordinance, 2002, in limits of the district and its tributary.
The order will come into force with immediate effect and remain valid for a period of two months, promising punishment under Section 188 of PPC to its violators.
The flash floods in recent years caused huge financial losses as buildings, hotels and roads were washed away in Kunhar River.
The Kaghan Valley remained cut from rest of the country, while traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan got suspended for over two weeks when the Mahandri Bridge washed away and a portion of the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road inundated by flooding water last year
