Rs3bn allocated for repair of schools

KHYBER: The government has allocated Rs3 billion for reconstruction and rehabilitation of militancy-affected educational institutions in tribal districts, says Mohammad Fareed Khattak, the deputy director of the education department.

Addressing a ceremony at a girl’s school in Ashkhel area of Landi Kotal, he said that funds were already transferred to the respective education departments of tribal districts and reconstruction activities would be initiated soon.

He said that the government was taking effective steps about the revival of the education system in tribal districts. He added that the condition of damaged schools would be improved with judicious utilization of the allocated funds.

“Khyber district has also been allocated an initial chunk of Rs33,700,000 for the reconstruction of damaged schools,” said the official.

Giving approval of the construction of two additional classrooms at the girl’s school and another at a boy’s primary school in the same locality, he said that government wanted to provide facilities to the students of tribal districts at par with districts of the province so that they could continue their education in a peaceful environment.

Meanwhile, police arrested at least six drug paddlers and dismantled their dens near the Shah Kas irrigation canal.
