To All The Construction Companies, Let’s Set To Work Again
M-5 is completed but construction can still happen. There will be more infrastructure in the areas near motorway requiring construction. So, to all the construction companies, let’s set to work again.
Multan to Sukkar Motorway
CPEC is a program in which Pakistan and China are collaborating to build infrastructure in Pakistan. It has a collection of projects including roads, ports, energy, agriculture and many others. The purpose of CPEC is to have an easy trade through different parts of the region. Multan to Sukkar Motorway is one of the projects of CPEC. Also, it is called as M-5. It starts from North and ends to South. This motorway is a part of Peshawar to Karachi Motorway. M-5 is a 392 km long motorway and has six lanes. It makes it a wide motorway to have more vehicles at a time.
Funds of the project
Though, M-5 project was started before the official beginning of CPEC, it has still become a major part of CPEC. Moreover, the government approved M-5 project in July 2014 whereas established CPEC on 18th February 2015. A Chinese company, China state Construction Engineering built this motorway. They completed it on its completion date which was august 2019. This six lane motorway passes through many areas and ends at Sukkar. To list, it passes through Jalal Peerwala, Ahmed Pur, Rahimyar Khan, Sadiqabad and travels through other areas to end at Sukkar. Specifically, talking about the money, the project cost $2.94 billion in total. China financed 90% of this amount and the Government of Pakistan funded the remaining 10%.
Economic benefits
The project benefits the people socially, economically and in terms of environment. If we talk about the economic benefits of M-5, there is a lot to say. It has created 29000 job opportunities for people. Locals of Pakistan got 97% of the jobs. Thus, the youth who were unemployed have got jobs and earning a livelihood by fair means. Furthermore, M-5 has cut the distance of 6-7 hours to 3-3.5 hours. This lesser distance leads to less fuel consumption. Less consumption of fuel ultimately leads to less oil imports. This means that the state has to spend less money on the import of oil and can spend this saved money to some other useful and more significant project.
Similarly, roads pave the way to urbanization. As Chinese company has completed motorway, now people will build buildings, markets, houses, schools etc. All this needs construction. Therefore, the construction companies will get more projects and in this way the local market will have a boost.
Social benefits
Particularly talking about society of Pakistan, M-5 has proven to be very significant. It has cut the distance due to which people reach to their places in lesser time. In a nutshell, time is money and M-5 has reduced time consumption of people. Likewise, due to urbanization, people will build houses and commercial areas which would benefit them in one way or the other. Moreover, Multan-Sukkar Motorway has improved the inter-city traffic situation. This helped in solving many problems of people.
Environmental benefits
Lastly, M-5 benefits the environment of Pakistan as well. Low fuel consumption means low carbon emission. Less carbon emission results in less greenhouse gases. It creates a good ecosystem. Hence, we encounter less environmental issues and can breathe peacefully.
