Sindh govt allocates Rs10billion for Sindh Safe City Project in Karachi

The Sindh government has announced a significant allocation of Rs10 billion for the Sindh Safe Cities Project (Phase-I) in the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah unveiled the budget, amounting to Rs2.2 trillion, with a development outlay of Rs700.1 billion.

During his budget speech, the chief minister highlighted the allocation of Rs10 billion for the Sindh Safe Cities Project, with a major focus on Karachi. Out of this amount, Rs4.5 billion has been specifically allocated for the year 2023-24.

The Sindh Safe Cities Project aims to enhance the security and surveillance infrastructure in Karachi to ensure the safety of its residents. The project includes various initiatives such as the connectivity of Lyari-Gujjar Nala in Central, construction of the Sea Wall and Road from Dolman Mall to China Port in Clifton, construction of a 6-lane expressway along Jinnah Bridge to Hawksbay, establishment of a 2+2 lane underpass at Karimabad District Central, and the establishment of campuses for public sector universities in Korangi, West, and Keamari.

In addition to the allocation for the Sindh Safe Cities Project, the Sindh government has proposed a 35 percent increase in salaries for government employees in grades 1-16, and a 30 percent increase for officers in grade 17 and above. The government has also recommended a 17.5 percent hike in pensions and an increase in the minimum wage to Rs35,550.

These budgetary measures reflect the government’s commitment to improving security, enhancing public sector salaries, and promoting social welfare in the province of Sindh. The allocation for the Sindh Safe Cities Project is expected to contribute significantly to the safety and well-being of the citizens, particularly in Karachi.
