Reko Diq Project Feasibility to be Completed this Year: Barrick Gold
A delegation of Barrick Gold Company led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Bristow was called up on the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday. During the meeting Mark Bristow informed the Prime Minister that the feasibility of the Reko Diq project in Baluchistan would be completed by end of current year.
Meanwhile, the prime minister expressed his satisfaction over the development and said that the Reko Diq project would be proved as a game changer for the development of Baluchistan and the country.
“This project would usher in a new era of development in the province and would bring prosperity for the people of the region,” the Prime Minister said, adding that proper planning would be made regarding communication, infrastructure, particularly roads and railway lines to take advantage of minerals in the province.
Shahbaz Sharif asked CEO Barrick Gold Company Mark Bristow to take further interests in investment in other mineral projects in Baluchistan. The Prime Minister suggested the government and the Barrick Gold company could jointly establish a technical university in Chagai district.
Earlier in the briefing, members of the delegation shared information regarding the progress on the f Reko Diq project. They delegation informed the Prime Minister that preference was being given to local and those having domicile from Baluchistan to work on Reko Diq project.
Barrick Gold stated they had established three schools near Reko Diq under Corporate Social Responsibility while so far, the company had also imparted technical training to 100 people including women.
