Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk Project Gets New Opening Date
A new deadline has been set for opening Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk to traffic under directives issued by the Punjab government.
Under the updated plan, the project will be opened to traffic by April 30, while structural work is scheduled to be completed before Eidul Fitr.
Punjab Highway Department Executive Engineer Qamar Ali Saqib told Dawn that more than 45 percent of the project has already been completed. He said the Frontier Works Organisation is carrying out construction work around the clock to meet the targets set by the government.
According to him, guide beam and piling work at Kutchery Chowk and the Jinnah Park underpass has been completed, while around 95 percent of the retaining wall work is also finished. Construction of the boundary wall is continuing at a fast pace.
He added that road construction will be completed in April, after which the chowk will be opened to traffic in line with government instructions.
Regarding landscaping, Mr Saqib said the Punjab Highway Department has contacted the Rawalpindi Parks and Horticulture Authority, which will begin plantation work next month.
