Rawalpindi is Getting Nine Underpasses and Flyovers

The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 150 billion for major development projects in Rawalpindi as part of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2025–26.

A key focus of the allocation is the Mall Road Signal-Free Project, which includes the construction of multiple underpasses and flyovers aimed at resolving the city’s growing traffic congestion.

The infrastructure upgrades will cover important locations such as Racecourse, Chairing Cross, Army Graveyard Chowk, Kutchery Chowk, Iftikhar Janjua Road, Jinnah Park, and Ammar Chowk.

The Racecourse underpass has a total cost of Rs. 2.6 billion. Meanwhile, the Chairing Cross underpass will cost Rs. 1.5 billion. A total of Rs. 54 million has been allocated for these projects. For the Army Graveyard Chowk underpass, the government has approved Rs. 1.9 billion, with Rs. 68 million to be released in this fiscal year.

The Kutchery Chowk underpass and widening project has a total cost of Rs. 4.45 billion, and Rs. 160 million has been allocated. The Iftikhar Janjua Road underpass will cost Rs. 1.93 billion, with an allocation of Rs. 69 million.

The Jinnah Park flyover, valued at Rs. 4.15 billion, has been allocated Rs. 149 million, while the Ammar Chowk flyover, costing Rs. 3.45 billion, will receive Rs. 124 million. Further, the COD Chowk (Range Road) underpass will be built at a cost of Rs. 3.75 billion, with Rs. 135 million set aside. The Tulsa Road Adiala underpass, with a cost of Rs. 1.69 billion, has been allocated Rs. 61 million.
