Rawalpindi Flyover Partialy Opened Amid Ongoing Construction

In a bid to ease growing traffic congestion, the Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Adiala Road’s Khawaja Corporation Chowk has been opened to the public — despite the fact that construction is still incomplete.

While the main structure of the flyover, including its deck and ramps, is ready for use, key portions such as service roads, drainage systems, and beautification work remain unfinished. Authorities expect full completion within one to two weeks, pending the relocation of utility poles and gas lines.

The flyover is expected to benefit over 79,000 vehicles daily by offering a signal-free route connecting to the M-1 Motorway and Rawalpindi Ring Road. However, its premature opening has raised safety concerns due to ongoing work along service lanes and pedestrian walkways.

Commissioner Amir Khattak and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have directed relevant agencies to expedite the remaining work without compromising quality. The government has also initiated parallel projects, including new underpasses on Mall Road, as part of its broader traffic improvement plan.

For now, motorists are experiencing some relief from routine traffic snarls, though dust, incomplete road shoulders, and exposed work zones continue to inconvenience commuters and nearby residents.
