Punjab to Build and Fix Thousands of Kilometres of Roads Under Biggest Project in Province’s History
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has greenlit the province’s largest-ever road rehabilitation initiative, approving the construction and repair of 12,000 kilometres of roads to improve connectivity across Punjab.
Chairing a meeting of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, the Chief Minister directed authorities to prioritise projects based on public needs and usage. She also instructed that road encroachments be removed by strictly enforcing bye-laws.
Maryam Nawaz reviewed the 18.5-kilometre Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop project and sought feasibility for a proposed expressway linking Layyah-Bhakkar Road to the motorway. She also called for uniform tuff tile designs in urban and rural areas.
She approved the recommendation to maintain a standard road width of 12 feet and agreed to include inter-district and inter-village roads in the construction and rehabilitation plans for the next financial year.
Meanwhile, in her message on World Day for Safety & Health at Work, the CM said that a secure, healthy workplace is every worker’s right and the foundation of a strong economy. Highlighting the 2025 theme, she stressed AI and digital tools’ role in safety.
