Punjab is Building a Water Restaurant

The Punjab government has approved the construction of the ‘Canal Ship Restaurant’ despite strong objections from the provincial finance department and the Planning & Development (P&D) Board, which had deemed the venture an unnecessary expense, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

Official documents reveal that the revised project cost has surged to Rs540 million from the earlier estimate of Rs350 million, following design changes and a review by NESPAK.

The finance department had opposed the scheme, arguing that an expenditure of Rs 4 million per seat on the floating restaurant was excessive. It also objected to the inclusion of a Rs50 million bridge and a ‘selfie point’ costing over Rs10 million.
According to the documents, the supplementary grant for the project will be allocated to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), while the P&D Board will arrange the required funding.
