Pakistan, Uzbekistan vow to expedite construction work on Trans Afghan Railway project
Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed to expedite work on the construction of the Trans Afghan Railway between Tashkent, Kabul, and Islamabad.
The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati and Transport Minister of Uzbekistan in Islamabad on Sunday.
During the meeting, the Railways Minister said all-out steps are being taken to ensure implementation of the project, which will provide Uzbekistan uninterrupted access to the Arabian seaports of Karachi, bin Qasim, and Gwadar.
It is pertinent to note that the Trans Afghan Railway project was signed earlier this year between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. According to details, the railway line will be constructed to connect Central Asia to the Arabian Seaports. The planned route will run from Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan through Kabul to Peshawar, Pakistan and connect to Termez, Uzbekistan. The access to Pakistan’s port will enable Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Kazakhstan to export their products globally through sea routes.
