PAA announces plans for new Faisalabad airport

FAISALABAD: The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has officially announced plans to construct a new airport in Faisalabad, aiming to enhance the city’s connectivity and boost regional development. The decision was revealed on Saturday as part of the authority’s broader infrastructure expansion efforts.

The PAA has invited bids for the airport’s design, masterplan, and feasibility study. Interested companies have been asked to submit their applications to the Planning Directorate by October 12, 2025. The authority will evaluate the technical and financial proposals to shortlist qualified firms for the project’s planning phase.

This development comes amid a national push to modernize aviation and immigration infrastructure. Earlier this month, new immigration counters were introduced at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport to ease entry for foreign travelers and returning citizens. These upgrades follow direct instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the updated immigration system is designed to reduce wait times, especially for business delegations and foreign investors. It is also expected to promote trade, tourism, and smoother passenger flow at major airports across Pakistan.

The Faisalabad airport project is being viewed as a strategic step toward supporting the city’s industrial and export sectors. Once operational, it will likely serve as a regional aviation hub, improving both domestic and international travel options.
