Outgoing Murad orders opening of Gulistan-e-Jauhar underpass on August 21
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi administration to officially open the Gulistan-e-Jauhar underpass on August 21, marking another milestone in the city’s ongoing development initiatives.
The announcement came as Shah conducted an inspection visit to the newly constructed overpass and the under-construction underpass in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. This visit took place on Tuesday evening, just a day after Shah, along with Sindh Assembly opposition leader Rana Ansar, nominated Justice (retd.) Maqbool Baqar as the interim provincial chief minister.
Accompanied by former ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sharjeel Inam Memon, as well as Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Shah inspected the progress of the underpass project. The welcoming presence of Sindh Local Government Additional Chief Secretary Syed Najam Shah added to the visit’s significance.
During the inspection, it was highlighted that the construction of the underpass commenced in March 2023. Originally slated for an 18-month completion timeline, the Rs. 1 billion project has made commendable progress.
Spanning an impressive length of 110 meters and a breadth of 18.5 meters, the Gulistan-e-Jauhar underpass is set to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Notably, the ramp from Pehlwan Goth’s side extends over 848 meters, contributing to smoother traffic flow.
To enhance the visual appeal of the underpass, administrators have incorporated LED lights, both on and underneath the structure, adding an aesthetic touch to the infrastructure project.
Expressing his satisfaction with the pace of work and the accomplishments of the departing Sindh administration, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah praised the record number of development projects undertaken in Karachi. The timely opening of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar underpass stands as a testament to the administration’s commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure and ensuring seamless urban mobility.
