Mega Development Project Worth Rs 6.81 Billion Reviewed In Hasilpur
BAHAWALPUR: Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza chaired a review meeting regarding the mega development project underway in Hasilpur under the Punjab Development Programme initiated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of the progress on key components of the project, including sewerage systems, stormwater drainage, road construction and rehabilitation, and overall urban infrastructure improvement.
Officials informed the meeting that the comprehensive development project carries an estimated cost of Rs 6.8166 billion. Under the plan, a 94-kilometer-long new sewerage network will be laid across the city, while 40 stormwater drainage points will be established to ensure effective disposal of rainwater. Additionally, two modern wastewater treatment plants will be installed to help reduce environmental pollution. To enhance the disposal system, a new disposal station with a capacity of 26 cusecs will be constructed, while two existing stations will be rehabilitated and upgraded.
As part of efforts to improve the sewerage infrastructure, 447 new manhole covers will be installed to ensure safety and efficiency. The project also incorporates energy-saving measures, including a 550-kilowatt solarization scheme, under which a new solar system will be installed and seven existing systems will be converted to solar energy.
For urban beautification, six parks are being restored and upgraded. Road infrastructure is another key component, with 55 kilometers of Tuff tile roads and 13.39 kilometers of asphalt roads planned for construction and rehabilitation. Furthermore, 200 new streetlights will be installed to improve city-wide illumination.
According to officials, the completion of this project will resolve the longstanding issue of rainwater drainage in Hasilpur, significantly improve the sewerage system, reduce environmental hazards, and enhance civic amenities, providing long-term relief to residents. The meeting also reviewed progress under the Storm Water Drainage System Package-8. Officials reported that work has already commenced at multiple sites. Excavation of a 1-million-gallon capacity underground storage tank at Allama Iqbal Park, Hasilpur, has been completed, and bed compaction is underway. Similarly, in Jalandhar Colony, lean concrete work for a roadside storage tank has been completed. Authorities further informed that proposals are under consideration for additional storage tanks at two more ponding points, including Tehzeeb Bakery Basera Road (Old Hasilpur) and Railway Road (Gujar Chowk to Niazi Chowk).
