Govt Approves Construction of 6 New Police Stations in Islamabad

The federal government has announced plans to expand and modernize Islamabad’s security setup by establishing six new police stations in crime-prone areas, aiming to transform the capital into a “crime-free” city.

The decision came after a three-hour review meeting chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who directed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police to complete the construction of the six new police stations within 45 days. He assured that the force would receive full support, including better resources and improved intelligence-sharing systems, to help curb crime and terrorism.

During the meeting, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa informed participants that tenders for an additional 10 police stations had already been issued.

The meeting also covered major infrastructure projects. One of the key decisions was the construction of a new international-standard convention centre ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Conference 2027. The new facility will be built next to the existing Jinnah Convention Centre and will include a large hall and several conference rooms.

Minister Naqvi stressed that the project should meet modern and international standards and directed that both local and international architects be hired to design it. He said the new centre would help Pakistan host major international events more efficiently.

Updates were also shared on other ongoing development projects. The CDA chief reported that work on the commercialisation plan for Islamabad Expressway was progressing, the new block of Parliament Lodges was on schedule, all foundation piles for the T-Chowk Flyover had been completed, and groundwork for the Shaheen Chowk project would begin soon. Restoration work on the A-Block building of the Pak Secretariat was also nearing completion.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, and other senior officials.
