DG SBCA, ABAD discusses action against illegal constructions
Director General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Abdul Rasheed Solangi, held a detailed meeting with the representatives of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) at the ABAD House. The discussion covered various issues concerning the construction industry, including building regulations, approval processes, and the ongoing efforts to curb illegal constructions in Karachi.
DG SBCA shared significant data, stating that from 2018 to 2024, a total of 8,171 buildings had been targeted for illegal construction activities. These included 1,150 cases in 2018, 1,220 in 2019, 976 in 2020, 1,308 in 2021, 1,142 in 2022, 892 in 2023, and 1,784 in 2024. He highlighted that the SBCA is actively pursuing daily operations across Karachi and the broader Sindh province to combat illegal buildings. Solangi further emphasized the need for innovation in the sector, directing ABAD to install QR codes on construction sites to enhance transparency.
He also urged ABAD to focus on the adoption of green energy solutions, such as the installation of solar panels, to ensure that new buildings are environmentally friendly. In line with cleanliness standards, he instructed ABAD to ensure the removal of debris from construction sites to maintain public spaces. The DG SBCA also mentioned the Sindh Government’s initiative to beautify Shahrah-e-Faisal, encouraging ABAD to apply similar improvements to the façades of buildings in other areas.
He stressed the importance of using high-quality materials in construction to improve durability and ensure safety. Hassan Bakshi, Chairman of ABAD, emphasized the importance of a stronger partnership with SBCA to enhance the construction industry’s regulatory framework.
Both sides expressed a strong commitment to working together to ensure a transparent, efficient, and sustainable construction sector in the region.
