Blue Line Train: Pakistan’s First Fully Underground Metro Service In Lahore On The Cards

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Transport Department has initiated preparations to launch Pakistan’s first fully underground metro service in Lahore, Blue Line.

Transport Department official sources said that the project is moving forward, with feasibility and design work accelerated and practical work already begun by the Transport Department and Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed the provincial transport minister to complete the feasibility and design work promptly. Once finalised, the report will clarify project costs, financing models, and the construction timeline.

The feasibility report for the 27-kilometer Blue Line is now in the preparation stage.

The proposed Blue Line route will run entirely underground from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Chowk, covering areas including Johar Town, Faisal Town, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Gulberg, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Wahdat Road, and Allama Iqbal Town.

The project is expected to be completed within three years and will have the capacity to serve over 250,000 passengers daily.
