Pakistan completes around 70% of North-South highway construction
Pakistan has currently completed around 70% of the construction of the North-South highway, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan said at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, Report informs.
According to the minister, 30% of the project has yet to be completed, and this part is planned to be finished over the next three years:
“This will connect Pakistan to China by road from the Arabian Sea. Through China, we may have the opportunity to expand connectivity to Afghanistan as well as the countries of Central Asia. Through this connectivity, I believe there is tremendous potential for new investment prospects in Pakistan. Not only in terms of revenues from transit fees on trade from Western China to the Gulf states, but also from the Central Asian countries to the Gulf states and from there to other parts of the world.”
Khan noted that Pakistan’s main advantage is its strategic geographical location on the world map: “On the one hand, China is located to our northeast. To the northwest are all the Central Asian states, some of which are landlocked countries. Afghanistan and Iran are to the west, while the Arabian Sea is undoubtedly to the south. Pakistan can leverage its geographical position to provide access from China’s western region to the Arabian Sea and then to all the landlocked areas of Central Asia. This constitutes the shortest possible route between the Central Asian states and the Gulf countries through Pakistani corridors, and even to the Arabian Sea. Connectivity opportunities can become a key driving force for our economy.”
