Work on Rs. 6.4 Billion Road Project in Rawalpindi to Start Next Month
Rawalpindi is set to witness major infrastructure development as work on the Rs. 6.494 billion Kutchery Chowk remodeling project is expected to begin next month. Preparations are already underway, with the Punjab Highway Department starting land marking for the project.
A meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema on Friday reviewed progress and directed utility departments, including SNGPL, IESCO, PTCL, Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards, and WASA, to submit cost estimates for shifting their services.
Officials informed the meeting that more than 36 kanals of land will be required, most of it state-owned and belonging to institutions such as Fatima Jinnah Women University, Pakistan Army, the commissioner’s office, and the income tax department.
Masab Ali, Sub-Divisional Officer of the Highway Department, said the project will stretch 2.5 kilometers and utility shifting will begin within a week. The remodeling is part of a larger signal-free corridor from Koral Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
The Punjab government had earlier approved three major projects for Rawalpindi on August 11, including Kutchery Chowk, an underpass at Iftikhar Janjua Road, and a flyover with an underpass at Jinnah Park Chowk.
