Punjab Govt Approves Neela Gumbad Underground Parking Plaza Project
The Punjab government has officially approved the construction of an underground parking plaza at Neela Gumbad to address growing parking challenges in the city.
The project will span three underground levels and is expected to cost over Rs. 2.24 billion. It will be built on 16 kanals of land, currently part of a public park, which will be repurposed for the structure.
The state-of-the-art facility will accommodate 374 cars and 790 motorcycles and will feature an automated parking management system for efficient operations.
The Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) will oversee the plaza’s construction, while the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will handle landscaping and beautification efforts. The plan also includes the revitalization of Neela Gumbad as part of the overall development.
The proposal, submitted by the Local Government Department, was approved during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) under the Planning & Development Board.
The parking plaza is expected to provide major relief to businesses and commuters in Neela Gumbad, New Anarkali, and surrounding commercial areas, by significantly reducing on-road vehicle congestion.
