Govt to expand Murree Expressway to enhance connectivity

Murree: The government has launched an ambitious project to boost tourism in Murree by expanding the primary highway connecting Rawalpindi, Murree, and Kashmir.

As per details, the project has a budget of PKR 1.2 billion and involves constructing a 17-kilometre stretch of road from Rawalpindi to Sunny Bank in Murree. Tenders for the construction work have been issued via the e-tender platform, with a submission deadline set for August 17. As part of the annual development program (ADP), the road construction will proceed in phases over the next six months, with work commencing simultaneously from both ends of the route.

The expansion plan emphasises environmental sustainability, featuring the planting of fruit and native pine trees, as well as fruit-bearing plants that represent the Pothohar region’s cultural heritage. Additionally, the project will include the creation of rest areas equipped with solar-powered lighting, ensuring energy-efficient facilities for travelers.
