Chairman WAPDA visits the Mohmand Dam Project to review the works

Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) visited Mohmand Dam Project to review construction progress on key sites. He examined the inlets and outlets of the three diversion tunnels, the powerhouse, and the spillway.

The GM/PD Mohmand Dam Project, accompanied by the consultants and contractors, briefed the Chairman about the ongoing activities and timelines for completing critical tasks at these sites.

Following the site visit, the Chairman chaired a crucial meeting at the project office. Here, he underscored the significance of the Mohmand Dam in meeting the country’s increasing water and energy needs. He directed the contractors to adhere to the execution plan for timely project completion, and urged for additional resources to expedite the process.

Earlier, the Chairman was briefed about the progress on diversion works, recovery plan, progress on quarry development and spillway concreting.

It’s worth noting that WAPDA is undertaking the construction of the Mohmand Dam Project, a monumental task spanning the River Swat in the Mohmand District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This project, the 5th highest concrete-face-rock-fill dam in the world, is set to be completed in 2026-27.

With a gross water storage capacity of 1.29 MAF, Mohmand Dam will irrigate 18,233 acres of new land in Mohmand and Charsadda and supplement irrigation supplies to 160,000 acres of existing land. The project’s installed power capacity stands at 800 MW, with an annual energy generation of 2.86 billion units. The project will also provide 300 million gallons of water per day to Peshawar for drinking purposes.
