Construction of wastewater treatment plant soon

The construction of Punjab’s first modern wastewater treatment plant will begin soon in the area of the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project, according to Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda).

“The groundbreaking of the first modern wastewater treatment plant in Punjab will be done soon, followed by the launch of the construction work on this state-of-the-art facility, ushering in a new era of environmental sustainability for the region,” said Ruda Chief Executive Officer Imran Amin while giving a briefing to the ministers for housing, urban development and public health department and local government and community development, Barrister Syed Ali Azfar Nasir and Ibrahim Murad, respectively, who called on him in his office on Thursday.

During the briefing, the CEO emphasised Ruda’s commitment in converting Lakho Dair landfill site into an eco-friendly park, unveiling a comprehensive plan that will enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal and provide a recreational space for the community.

“The new landfill is going to have all the modern mechanisms to mitigate ecological concerns. The new landfill will be on 350 acres out of which 50 acres will be used in Phase I. It will be in the vicinity of Wasa’s first wastewater treatment plant,” Mr Amin said.

The ministers expressed their satisfaction over the performance of the authority regarding the ongoing projects near the Ravi.

EXPO: Punjab Caretaker Local Government Minister Ibrahim Murad says the government wants to provide relief packages to different sectors for promoting economic activities and increasing business transactions despite the present financial crunch.

He was talking to the media persons after inaugurating the three-day Pakistan International Chemical Expo at Expo Centre, Johar Town on Thursday.

The minister admired the courage and motivation of the business community which had always worked hard with a nationalist spirit under unfavourable circumstances since long.

“It is the prime responsibility of the government to accord due respect and give incentives to the industrialists and the business sector. The government is taking all necessary steps to keep the wheel of the industry moving, create employment opportunities and economic growth of the country,” he said.

Murad said the caretaker government had started preparation of budget proposals for the next financial year.
