Housing Foundation to Build Homes for Flood-Affected Communities
The Chief Secretary of Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, has announced the establishment of the Sindh People’s Housing Foundation (SPHF) to construct homes for people who have been affected by floods.
The SPHF recently held a workshop on the construction of these houses, which will be a collaborative effort involving several organizations, including Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO), National Rural Support Program (NRSP), Sustainable Actions to Access Financial Capital Opportunities (SAFCO) Support Foundation, Thardeep Rural Development Program (TRDP), and HANDS.
Aside from constructing homes, the Chief Secretary emphasized that the project is also geared towards uplifting the affected communities.
According to a survey, flash floods have caused damage to a total of 2.058 million houses in the province, either partially or completely.
The World Bank has committed to providing USD 500 million for this housing project, with the federal and Sindh governments each contributing USD 250 million.
The project will offer installment plans of PKR 0.3 million for completely destroyed homes and PKR 50,000 for partially damaged homes.
