3 dams proposed to solve Quetta water crisis
Balochistan Public Health Engineering (PHE) has prepared a feasibility report of three major dams to solve the serious problem of water shortage faced by Quetta city.
The PHE department has prepared the feasibility report and PC 1 of Babar Kach Dam, Brij Aziz Khan Dam and Halak Dam and the construction of these dams.
Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, has been facing a serious water crisis for decades as the underground water level is going down rapidly each passing day.
The provincial government has decided to contact the federal government to include these dams in the federal PSDP. The estimated cost of Babar Kach Dam is Rs73 billion, Burj Aziz Khan Dam Rs48 billion and Halak Dam Rs22 billion.
Official sources told The Express Tribune the provincial government will request federal government to include these projects in the Private Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2023-24. “The Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo will request the prime minister to include the dam projects at a cost of Rs143 billion in the federal PSDP,” he said.
